Kokomo
is a large-bodied first freshening 2 year old in
2021 whose udder was the most pleasant surprise.
With Koko we got our first look at what kind of
udders our buck Kryptonite would throw and boy
were we pleased. Koko has a wonderful side
profile udder with 1/3 visible in front of and
behind her rear leg. She has a really nice rear
udder that is nice and high, good arch and she
also has a nice smooth fore udder with no
pocket. Koko herself is large and somewhat
gangly as a 2 year old. Her claim to fame is her
high milk production as a first freshener. She
has already reached 15.9 pounds this
summer, which is a Platte Valley herd record for
any first freshener. She has already reach 3,013
pounds at 236 days.
Koko will be bred to
Meadowlark River Tach for March kids. Our plan
is to continue to milk her up to 305 days just
to see how far she can go, 305 days being the
industry standard for one year's full
production. Current 305-day projection is for
over 4500 pounds, which would be another herd
best for us if we don't get tired of milking
before she gets there!
Koko started out the show
season placing 6th or 7th in the first 3
shows. Not quite last, but almost. And here we
thought she was fabulous! At the last show of
the year, Nebraska State Fair 2nd ring, she
moved up one place at a time until she was in
3rd. Finally we saw progress! We are actually
really pleased with Kokomo and look forward to
her maturing and filling out. |
